Spring Awakening is a coming-of-age rock musical with music by Duncan Sheik and a book and lyrics by Steven Sater. It is based on the 1891 German play Spring Awakening by Frank Wedekind. Set in late 19th-century Germany, the musical tells the story of teenagers discovering the inner and outer tumult of adolescent sexuality.

Caila Carter (Wendla) is a gifted and sought after performing artist whose talents have taken her all around the world. Her resume boasts work with Hong Kong Disneyland, Norwegian and Oceania Cruise Lines, and Universal Studios Florida, as well as regional stages near and far. She has a genuine love for all facets of the arts, and has extensive experience working both as a performing and teaching artist for numerous organizations throughout the Central Florida region. Caila is thrilled to be returning to New Gen Theatricals lend her artistry to such a timely and poignant story to help give Wendla, and so many women like her out there, the voice she was denied.
Kyle Ashe Wilkinson (Melchior) is thrilled to be a part of this concert for such an important cause. Jose Rivera (Moritz) is an Orlando-based actor born and raised in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Flying by the seat of his pants, he started performing at the Ocala Civic Theatre in 2016 and decided to keep rolling with it. Favorite credits include Sonny in In the Heights (McCoy-Rigby Entertainment), Jean-Michel in La Cage aux Folles (Studio Theatre Tierra del Sol), Clyde Barrow in Bonnie and Clyde and Eddie Birdlace in Dogfight (Theater West End), and Jean-Michel in Rogers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella (Orlando Repertory Theatre). Hayley Sanz (Anna) is so excited to be back working with New Generation Theatrical! She most recently worked on Jesus Origins (Fight Choreographer/Fina u/s), as well as Luchadora! (Fight Captain/Swing) at Orlando REP. She is a recent graduate of UCF with a BFA in Musical Theatre. Some favorite past roles include First Date (Allison) and Into the Woods (Little Red). Hayley thanks the cast and creative team for their kindness, and her family and friends for their constant support.
Lizzy Cassell (Thea) is thrilled to be part of this cast sharing such an important story. She has performed over the past 10 years in Orlando, on the high seas, and over in Japan. Many thanks to her friends, family, and Husband, Bobby, for their undying love and support. #bansoffourbodies
Lily Anastasia MacKenzie (Ilse/Adult Female) Orlando native and FSU grad, is thrilled to be making her NGT debut! AEA member with experience performing at theme parks for over 5 years. Favorite credits include: Marta (Company), Belle (Beauty and the Beast), Sister Mary Leo (Nunsense), and Teen Pop Goddess in the CF premier of Ladies of the 80s at the Orlando Fringe Festival. Joseph Trewin (Hanschen) is a third-year in UCF’s BFA Musical Theatre program. He has been seen on the UCF stage in Bright Star (Max, U/S Billy), and Shrek (Ensemble). Zachary Racine (Otto) is a UCF student in the MFA Acting Program. He earned his BA from Flagler College, St Augustine. Regional: Horn in the West (Samuel, Jack U/S). Joseph D’Ambrosi (Georg/Adult Male) is thrilled to make his New Generation Theatrical debut! An award-winning theatre historian, educator, and practitioner, Joe holds a Ph.D. in Theatre and Drama from Indiana University, an M.A. in Theatre Studies from UCF, and a B.A. in Theatre from Messiah University. His scholarship is published in a number of peer-reviewed journals and edited collections, including Theatre Survey, Theatre History Studies, and Ecumenica. Joe recently performed as Mr. Bumble in Theatre at St. Luke’s production of OLIVER!, which earned him a Critic’s Pick nomination from the Orlando Sentinel. During the day, Joe serves the School District of Osceola County as the K-12 Fine and Performing Arts Resource Specialist, overseeing 190 teachers in all arts disciplines across 50+ schools. He lives in Winter Garden with his husband, Harris, and their daughter, Horatio, who is a cat.
David Klein (Swing) is making his New Gen debut in this incredibly beautiful and important version of Spring Awakening! David is a south Florida native and a proud graduate of UCF. Safin Karim (Music Director) is incredibly excited to bring this reimagined rendition of Spring Awakening to life and to support such a powerful cause in a time where one can easily feel powerless. His previous music direction credits include: 'Parade' (Garden Theatre, Joseph Walsh) (Orlando Sentinel Best Music Direction 2022 Mention), She Loves Me (Theatre West End, Ayò Demps), Voices of Dissent: 21st Century (Valencia College, Rob Urbinati), and Make Way for Ducklings (Orlando Family Stage, Nick Bazo). On stage, Safin has played roles that include Sweeney Todd (Sweeney Todd), Jean Valjean (Les Miserables), Gaston (Beauty and The Beast), and Officer Lockstock (Urinetown). Safin is honored to be in NYU's Class of 2027.
Katie Rinaldi (AEA SM, they/she) This is Katie's second production with New Gen and they are thrilled to be back! Last summer, Katie had the honor of stage managing the benefit concert for Heathers the Musical, she is beyond grateful to be working with a company who gives back so much to those who need it most. In addition to stage managing, Katie also works as the theatre director/teacher at Lake Brantley high school where they recently closed an extremely successful production of Peter and the Starcatcher. Previous stage management credits include Fun Home, The Mystery of Edwin Drood, Hand to God, Constellations, Ghost the Musical, The Addams Family Musical (Edinburgh Fringe), Flying Lessons (NYMF), and many more. Katie would like to extend deepest appreciation to Aaron and everyone at New Gen for including them in this show and for doing so much good in the community.
